Ex-Student – Natalie Whiting (2007)
Natalie Whiting is a video journalist and multiplatform reporter, based in Melbourne. She has worked across a range of ABC's news and current affairs teams and was formerly the broadcaster's Papua New Guinea Correspondent. Natalie started her career with the ABC in Broken Hill and was later based in Orange, Sydney, Adelaide, and Hobart. During this time, Natalie won several awards for her reporting and was a two-time finalist for the Walkley Young Journalist of the Year. Natalie then spent more than four years in Port Moresby as the ABC's PNG Correspondent. For her reporting from PNG, she was awarded the ACFID Media Award, the Sean Dorney Grant for Pacific Journalism and was a finalist for the Lowy Institute Media Award.
Natalie Whiting was called on to film the story due to the difficulty of getting an Australian Story crew to Manus Island.(ABC News: Bethanie Harriman)
