Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Staff

On Sunday, 2 June, we celebrated in the Church the Feast of Corpus Christi.  Corpus Christi is the feast celebrating the Holy Eucharist and translates into English as the ‘Body and Blood of Christ’.  The previous week we celebrated Trinity Sunday as the first Sunday after Pentecost to honour the Holy Trinity – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  We remember the Father as our Creator, the Son as our Saviour and the Holy Spirit as our Comforter.

I offer the following prayer for families to share to acknowledge the feast of Corpus Christi:

We pray to the Lord, who gives Himself in the Eucharist,
that this sacrament may bring us salvation and peace.
Lord Jesus Christ,
you gave us the Eucharist as a memorial of your suffering and death.
May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood
help us to experience the salvation you won for us,
along with the peace of the Kingdom
where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June, which was during Week 5 of this term.  The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will — and must — continue.

St Clare’s Athletics Carnival

After two previous postponements of our Athletics Carnival due to extreme weather, we are planning to run our carnival in Week 10 of this term on Tuesday 2 July.  The carnival will be held at the Taree Recreational Grounds Athletics Track and is a compulsory school event for all students.  More information concerning the carnival will be sent to parents and students closer to this date.

Year 7 – 10 Examinations/Assessments

The past two weeks have been very busy for our Year 7 – 10 students with a range of examinations and assessments being conducted across multiple subjects.  My congratulations go to the students who have prepared themselves well for these tasks and have worked consistently throughout Semester 1.  Results from these tasks will help teachers and students identify areas of strength in learning and help to focus and direct future efforts in Semester 2.

Winter Appeal

With Winter now upon us, we are stepping up our efforts to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal in 2024.  Many families and individuals in our local community need support during this time and as a Catholic community we are called to offer support and assistance to those in need.  At St Clare’s we have organised several fundraising ventures, including BBQ lunch and breakfast opportunities, and are asking for different year groups to consider providing items that will support the Taree Community Kitchen and the Vinnies Winter Appeal.  Our first BBQ was highly successful raising $505 and we would like to continue this effort to raise as much as we can for our community.

God bless and best wishes for the fortnight ahead.
