Careers & VET Information
Careers Corner
We are now just over halfway through Term 2 – Exam time for the Year 7-10 students. Good luck to everyone.
Last Friday, 31 May we received a visit from Shelley and Jolly from Max FM 107.3. They spoke to the Year 12 students about post school pathways in Media (and of course in Radio). They had some very interesting information for the students. We would like to thank them for giving up their time to come and talk to us. And of course, a big thank you to Erin Lute from RIEP for arranging this for us.

Jolly & Shelley Max FM
I have forwarded the Year 12 students some information regarding careers in the NSW Police Force and the process for applying if they are interested in this post school pathway.
Last Tuesday night Mr Tony McCudden and I attended a Charles Sturt University information evening for Principals and Careers Advisers in Port Macquarie. It was lovely to see Kate Wood-Foye who is a past St Clare’s student who now works for CSU as their Director of External Engagement. There will be several new Face to Face courses running in 2025 at the Port Macquarie campus of CSU which is great to hear. Study options for 2025 at Port Macquarie include Accounting and Business, Education, Environmental Science, Exercise and Sports Science, Information Technology, Law and Criminal Justice, Medical Radiation Science, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Policing, Psychology, and Social Work.

Mark your calendars and be part of this informative session!
I am continuing to receive permission notes and Session Confirmations from the Year 11 and 12 students who are attending the University of Newcastle Open Day on 4 July. I am encouraging the students to get this in as soon as possible as there is a waiting list for this day.
UAC Information
Course preferences
While applications are open, not all courses are available to select within their application. However, they can still submit an application with at least one preference and then come back later to list additional courses when they become available.
Universities have until 1 August to have all 2025 courses available for selection in the application.
Starting an application: Essential Information
This year, students need the following details to start their UAC application:
Personal email address: For security reasons, when students start their application, they will need to register with a personal email address and a password. They will then be sent an email to validate their details. Once they've done that, they will use their email address and password to log in to their application.
Year 12 student number and UAC PIN: NSW and ACT students – We emailed UAC PINs to NSW and ACT students on 3 April using the email addresses NESA and ACT BSSS have on file. If any students didn't receive this email, please ask them to call UAC. Also remind them to register a personal email address in their NESA Students Online account.
Students need to enter their Year 12 student number and UAC PIN early in the application. These details identify them as a 2024 Year 12 student, which means they'll be able to apply for an early offer through the Schools Recommendation Scheme.
Unique Student Identifier (USI): At the request of institutions, this is now a mandatory field for domestic applicants who are Australian citizens. Students can quickly and easily create their USI or check if they already have one.

I would like to remind everyone that there are Careers Team OneNote spaces for Years 10, 11 and 12. I am placing information about various post school pathways in these spaces. When I receive information about Job Vacancies, Apprenticeship/Traineeship opportunities and anything to do with post school pathways, I email it to the students and place it in the relevant TAB in the relevant Careers Team.
Last week our Year 11 and 12 Sport Coaching students assisted at the Taree St Joseph’s Primary School Athletics Carnival. This counts as part of their Work Placement hours for the course. The students were amazing, and all the Joeys staff sang their praises, saying that they would not have coped without them. They also commented on the fact that the St Clare’s students were a wonderful example to the primary school students (there are a few photos which speak for themselves).

Well-done everyone!
If any student is interested in doing Work Experience, please come and collect the necessary paperwork from me. The Catholic Schools Office has set guidelines for Work Experience. Year 9 and Year 10 students have to complete this during school hours; however Year 11 and Year 12 students can do Work Experience during holiday time or on the weekend.
If anyone would like to discuss options and possibilities for post school pathways, please do not hesitate to contact me (phone 6552 3300 or email karen.mccann@mn.catholic.edu.au.
