St Clare’s Athletics Championships 2024
It was an overcast and cool day for the return of the annual whole school Athletics event. Students were able to participate in a full range of track and field events to earn points for their house. The overall age champions will be announced at an upcoming whole school assembly. A combination of highly competitive relay events rounded out the day of competition with great excitement created from the student team entries making the difference of which house was victorious.
Students were encouraging each other throughout the day as they supported their peers. Year 11 Sports Captains were once again leading the students in their houses to encourage each member of their house to participate in as many events as possible, keeping the participation rates high and making for an enjoyable day for both students and staff. The leadership shown continues to create a house culture that is unique to our event.

Thank you to the Taree Little Athletics Club for the preparation of the track including line marking and the ground preparation and equipment. Thank you to the staff who assisted in the set up and pack up and all staff on the day that made the event a great experience for the students of St Clare’s. Thank you also to the SRC who assisted with the running of the canteen.
We thank those parents/carers and families that were able to attend the day or part thereof to support the students. A significant sense of community on the day is created by the support of parents/carers and families. It is great to be able to welcome new families each year and, for those who continue to support the event, we extend a big thank you.
Overall house results were finalised on the day with the following house standings announced:
1st Gordon - 704 points
2nd Kendall - 693 points
3rd Paterson 498 points
4th Lawson - 463 points

Gordon Does Big Double
In an historic turn of events, the St Clare’s sporting house, Gordon, celebrated an incredible achievement, securing their first double championship this century with wins in both swimming and athletics. The team's momentum and unwavering spirit propelled them to victory in both events led by captains, River Colliar and Elise Zammit.
River Colliar and Elise Zammit
Both wins were all the more credible as points were accumulated not by having the best swimmers and athletes but by weight of the number who attended and competed. C’mon the Gordon Greens.

Rugby 7 – Year 7 Team
A gallant and courageous team of 11 Year 7 students today took to the fields in Taree. Despite the majority having never played Rugby Union or Rugby 7s, the team were consistently trying hard to overcome their older, larger and quicker opponents.
Knowledge and understanding of team structures and positions was a constant source of discussion amongst the team members. At times it was reminiscent of a Shakespearean play; or the NSW Labor Party as this group took infighting to new levels.
Despite this, the team were not disgraced, and effort was visible across the park. The boys are to be commended for their tenacity and resilience despite the adversity that they faced. Some excellent tackles and tries were scored and it would be a shame to see the enthusiasm that was displayed today not repeated in the near future.
