7/8 Girls’ Basketball Team
On Thursday 5 September our 7/8 girls’ basketball team travelled to Newcastle to contest the Diocesan Championships. They represented the school with pride and won their first four games, eventually going down to St Pius in the semi-final. Students should be proud of their incredible performances and respectful behaviour. We also thank Charlotte Cooper, Callie Gillard, Angus Moore and Leo Beckton who did an outstanding job as coaches, managers and referees.

7/8 Boys Team
The St Clare's 7/8 Boys Team had an impressive day of basketball, showcasing great skill and sportsmanship throughout a series of challenging matches. The day was marked by close games, strategic plays, and standout performances from key players.
In their first game against St Joseph’s College Lochinvar, St Clare’s led at halftime but ultimately fell short in a tight contest, losing 39-36. Despite the loss, their performance in the first half highlighted their potential.
The team bounced back strongly in their second game against St Mary’s Gateshead, securing a narrow 39-35 victory. The match was closely contested, but St Clare’s resilience and determination led them to success.
Against St Paul’s Booragul, St Clare’s surged ahead with impressive teamwork, leading to a decisive win with a score of 33-17. The team’s cohesive play was evident, and they managed to dominate the game.
In the playoff against St Pius X High School, St Clare’s faced a hard-fought battle. Although the opposition initially took the lead, St Clare’s put up a strong fight, bringing the score level at one point. However, a few minor injuries and relentless pressure from St Pius X High School led to a narrow defeat, with a final score of 34-26.
Throughout the day, Leo Beckton and Triston Brody stood out as the lead game scorers, consistently contributing crucial points. Win Kityanyong and Angus Moore were instrumental as defensive legends, providing exceptional defence and support.
The team exhibited quick hands, precise passes, and excellent teamwork in all their matches. Their cohesive play and strategic approach were evident in both offensive and defensive situations.

Overall, it was a great day of basketball for St Clare’s 7/8 Boys Team. Despite facing tough competition and a few setbacks, the players demonstrated commendable effort and sportsmanship. Well done to everyone for their dedication and hard work throughout the day.
