Apology and Correction: Dance Program at St Clare’s High School

In our previous newsletter, I mistakenly stated that Amarli Harrison was the first Dance student at St Clare’s High School.  Having only been a member of the St Clare’s community since 2015 I was not aware that Dance had been studied by students prior to last year.  I apologise for my oversight.

I would like to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of all our past and present Dance students who have contributed to the rich history of our school’s Dance program.

In 2001, St Clare’s student Monique Singh, daughter of Barbara Singh, who worked at St Clare’s in the Library followed by Finance for 26 years, achieved a Band 6 in her Dance course and was successful in having her work nominated for OnSTAGE.  Monique had the privilege of performing her Dance at the Sydney Opera House!

Following her HSC, Monique was accepted at Tanya Pearson's Academy of Dance at St Leonards for two years which was followed by a Creative Arts Major in Dance at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, where she graduated with First Class Honours.

Since graduating, Monique has joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity and is Assistant Principal at Xavier College on the Tiwi Islands.

After Monique, we had Joanna Drake complete her HSC in Dance in 2010, Therese Cushway in 2016 and Sophie Johnston in 2020.

The dedication and passion that these students have shown for studying HSC Dance has paved the way for future generations, and we are incredibly proud of each and every student who has the ability and drive to study Dance for their HSC as the professional field of Dance can be extremely competitive.
