This week our Year 10 Hospitality students have rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the kitchen for a Cupcake Challenge and the results are as creative as they are delicious!  From classic vanilla swirls to bold, colourful designs, students have been putting their baking and decorating skills to the test. 

To succeed in their task, the students had to: 

• Choose a target market for their cupcake.
• Research six possible designs and select their favourite.
• Present a detailed decoration plan (with diagrams and written explanation).
• Develop a standard recipe card including all cake and decoration ingredients, plus a costing for two cakes.
• Bring their designs to life with creative decoration. 

From elegant floral patterns for high tea lovers to bold, colourful designs aimed at younger audiences, each cupcake told a story and showcased the students’ individual flair.

A Taste of Success 

This challenge was not only about baking - it was a lesson in planning, creativity, and presentation.  Students had to think like professional pastry chefs, considering their audience, costings, and final product appeal.
