NSW All Schools Touch – State Final
On 16 and 17 September, three St Clare’s High School teams, the Year 7/8 Girls, Year 9/10 Girls, and Year 9/10 Boys, travelled to Manly, Sydney, to compete in the prestigious NSW All Schools Touch State Final. The competition brought together some of the best school touch football teams from across the state, providing our students with a valuable opportunity to test their skills against high-quality opposition.
Year 7/8 Girls Team
The Year 7/8 Girls team impressed with a strong showing across the tournament. They opened their campaign with a confident 3–1 victory over Carroll College, showcasing quick ball movement and strong defensive work. Building on this momentum, they backed it up with a 4–2 win against Stella Maris in round two, displaying excellent teamwork and determination in attack. Their third match saw them defeat Mater Maria 4–1, again highlighting their consistency and fitness. The girls faced their toughest challenge in round four against Hunter Sports High, the eventual state champions, going down 4–0 despite a spirited performance. Their results secured them a place in the quarter finals, where they fought hard but were eventually defeated 4–2 by Westfield Sports High in a closely contested match. Overall, the team demonstrated outstanding skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament.

However, they encountered tough opposition in their following matches, with Mudgee High proving too strong in a 7–1 result. The challenge continued against Ballina Coast High, one of the most dominant teams in the draw, who ran out 10–0 winners. The girls’ final match was against eventual state champions Hunter Sports High, and despite their best efforts, St Clare’s went down 7–0. Although results didn’t always fall their way, the girls showed persistence, commitment, and pride in representing their school on such a big stage.

Their second match against Mid North Coast rivals St Joseph’s Port Macquarie was another close contest, but the boys were edged out 2–1 in a tight finish. Showing determination to bounce back, they played a thrilling 4–4 draw against Carroll College, where both sides traded tries in an exciting contest that kept spectators on edge. The boys saved their best performance for their final round match, producing a dominant display in a 5–0 win over St John XXII Catholic College. Harry Well’s NRL 9’s
On Tuesday 23 September, St Clare’s High School proudly sent four teams, 14’s Girls, 16’s Girls, 14’s Boys and 16’s Boys, to Port Macquarie to compete in the Harry Wells NRL 9’s Tournament. It was an exciting day of fast-paced rugby league, with many students experiencing the game for the very first time. All four teams displayed strong determination, skill development, and plenty of school spirit, producing some excellent results against tough opposition.
14’s Girls
The 14’s Girls team played with enthusiasm and attacking flair, especially considering many players were new to rugby league. Their opening 17–4 win against Kempsey Adventist was built on quick play-the-balls and fearless running, with strong support play ensuring tries were finished with confidence. In defence, they held a tight line and chased hard to shut down breaks, showing great communication. Their momentum carried into a 29–4 victory over Melville High, where the girls displayed slick ball movement and spread the defence wide to create space. Against St Paul’s College, they fought bravely in a thrilling 14–12 loss — both sides scored three tries, but St Paul’s edged ahead with a conversion. The girls finished strongly with a 17–4 win over Kempsey High, showing their resilience in both attack and defence to end the tournament on a high.

16’s Girls
The 16’s Girls showed tremendous spirit, playing with heart in every match. Their opening 5–4 win over Melville High was a defensive battle where their tackling pressure and scramble defence proved the difference. In their following matches, they showed strong determination in attack — running hard at the line, offloading under pressure and creating multiple scoring chances — but were narrowly beaten 13–8 by both Chatham High and St Paul’s College. Despite fatigue setting in, the girls never stopped competing, showing brave tackling against more experienced sides. Their final game against Camden Haven ended 21–8, but the team left the field proud, knowing they had gained invaluable experience and improved their defensive structures throughout the day.

Their 19–0 opening win against Macksville High showed their dominance — sharp passing, explosive running and committed tackles kept their opponents scoreless. They backed this up with another shutout, 13–0 against Hastings Secondary College, where their defensive line was rock-solid and their attack flowed seamlessly with strong support runners finishing off breaks. Against St Paul’s College, the boys continued their excellent form, winning 22–5 thanks to aggressive defence that forced turnovers and quick counter-attacking play. Their only loss came in the final match, going down 20–4 to Camden Haven despite fighting hard in defence. Their performance across the tournament highlighted their strong attacking combinations and disciplined tackling.

In a close second-round battle, they were narrowly edged out 16–13 by Hastings Secondary College, despite showing great attacking creativity and determined defence. They bounced back with a commanding 17–4 win over Wauchope High, where their forwards laid the platform and the backs capitalised with smart running lines. Their final 17–4 win against Chatham High capped off the day, with disciplined defence denying opportunities and their attack finishing clinically.
