Theatresports Competition
On Wednesday, St Clare’s competed in the Diocesan Theatresports Competition at St Pius X Adamstown. This would involve us competing against a number of schools in the Maitland Newcastle Diocese as St Clare’s entered two Year 11 teams and two Year 9 teams into the contest. The day involved students using their improvisational skills to develop short performances with no preparation.
The Year 11 teams placed first and second, receiving some excellent scores on the day. The physicality and character skills they displayed made them an audience favourite with huge rounds of applause. They remained consistent with their scores after scenes involving a monster in the basement, building Shakespeare’s Globe and finding a cure for baldness. Year 11 was represented by Medinah Wells, Yolanta Guthridge, Lucas Drury, Ryan Stewart, Cooper Twemlow, Scarlett McCarthy, Taj Simpson and Georgia Rourke.
The Year 9 team started strong and showed a desire to improve all day. After only studying Drama for six weeks, they performed with the flair and creativity of a senior team and had the enthusiasm to back it up, even rehearsing in the intermissions. Both Year 9 teams came second on the day with tied scores and were represented by Will Maslen, Sam Tilley, Lachlan Bell, Bryce Young, Claire Priddle, Megan Pieschel and Elise Miles.
I would like to congratulate all students who competed for their exceptional behaviour and commitment on the day. A big thank you to all the parents who assisted with transport. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
