Safer Driver Course June, July Holidays

The Australian Driver Trainer Association (ADTA) Safer Drivers Course, will be held over the next school holidays.

The ADTA is a non-for-profit organisation that has provided Safer driving practices through this course for more than 50 years.

The course is broken into two modules.

Module 1

An engaging and interesting 3hour workshop specifically designed for 16- to 25-year-old learner drivers.  During this part of the course, you will learn how to identify potentially hazardous situations and strategies you can use to reduce or eliminate those risks.  Module 1 is conducted by an experienced facilitator who is also a fully qualified driving instructor.

Research shows that drivers aged 17 to 25 years old are most at risk of having a serious accident resulting in personal injury or a fatality.  During this course you will learn:

  • Why 17-to-25-year-old are more likely to be involved in serious accidents
  • What risk factors contribute to those accidents
  • How you can identify and manage those risks
  • Understand how driver behaviour can increase the risk of a serious accident
  • Identify how you can reduce the risks of having a serious accident

Module 2

This is a two-hour in car coaching session that allows you to build on the knowledge you learnt in module 1.  Under the guidance of a highly trained driving instructor, you will learn how to apply safe driving strategies in a real-life situation.

Some of the things you will learn in this course include:

  • Maintaining a safe following distance
  • Crash avoidance spaces
  • Gap Selection
  • Speed management
  • Hazard perception
  • Decision making

Please note it is a Roads & Maritime Services condition that this part of the course be conducted with two learner drivers present.  We will endeavour to place all learner drivers in their preferred transmission type (Automatic or Manual).  However, some manual drivers may be required to take this part of the course in an automatic car, due to student numbers and instructor availability.

Statistics have proven that learner drivers under the age of 25 are at most risk of being involved in a fatal crash, particularly within the first few years of getting their P’s.

The Australian Driver Trainers Association is here to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to stay safe on the roads.

To be eligible to participate in the Safer Drivers Course you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a valid NSW drivers licence
  • Be under 25 years old
  • Have 50 hours of actual driving. This excludes the 3 for 1 hour’s credit you receive when taking a professional driving lesson
