Girls Rugby Union
On Wednesday, 16 June, St Clare’s High School took an 18’s girls Rugby Union team to Port Macquarie. The girls in the team had varying degrees of playing experience but were not lacking in enthusiasm at all.

The day began with a group chat about the 4 key values of importance and some safety tips before the day began. Our team then got involved in some training and skills development before playing some experienced competition.
The first game was hard fought, but the girls went down to a very experienced side made up of players from a variety of Port Macquarie and Kempsey High schools. As the day progressed and the girls grew in confidence, their performance improved, and they showed great skill and passion. I was extremely impressed with how the girls represented themselves and the school.
A big thank you to coach, Mr Brad Hart for his efforts and expertise, and the parents who helped transport and cheer on the team. I look forward to contesting the next round in Wauchope, where no doubt the girls will come out stronger again.

18’s Boys Rugby League – Country Cup Regional Finals
Congratulations to our U18’s boys Rugby League team, who travelled up to Port Macquarie to compete in the Country Cup Regional Finals on Thursday, 17 June. The boys played with terrific skill, toughness and sportsmanship throughout both their matches with some excellent and highly entertaining Rugby League played.
The boys played with attacking flare and strong defence throughout the day and came away with an emphatic 50-0 win in their opening semi-final match against Macksville. Some strong individual performances from Darcy Round, Mhalikai Mercy, Blake Miller-Russell and Jaxson Longa opened up the Macksville defence at will to set up some highly entertaining team tries.

The boys advanced to the Regional final of the Country Cup where they encountered local arch nemesis Taree High, who were earlier victorious in their semi-final match against Newman College. The final was an exciting and seesawing contest where the boys displayed great defensive efforts under fatigue and athleticism and skill in attack. With two tries a piece and Taree High leading 12-10 late in the game, a couple of costly errors from St Clare’s and ill-discipline gifted Taree High great field position where they were able to seal the game 22-10 and a place in the Northern State Finals.
Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs Parvin as well as William Hogan and James Wright (who contributed as water runners) for their time and dedication in training, coaching and supporting our team, without their outstanding and tireless efforts events such as this would not be possible.
