Prayer Point
There is, of course, many points in the Readings for this Sunday, but there is one image that ‘speaks’ to me. It’s funny, realistic and illustrates an unfortunate human trait.
The whole community of the sons of Israel began to complain against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness and said to them, 'Why did we not die at the Lord's hand in the land of Egypt, when we were able to sit down to pans of meat and could eat bread to our heart's content! As it is, you have brought us to this wilderness to starve this whole company to death!' Exodus 16
I’m sorry but I just can’t help laughing! How a group of people, the Chosen People, are having a whinge at Moses and God. God has just brought them out of Egypt by parting the Red Sea, and destroying the Egyptian army! He sent the Angels of Death to kill their first born but Pass-over their homes. He sent 7 plagues to convince the Egyptians that He was the one true God. He raised up the greatest leader in Hebrew history, Moses, to lead them!
Their response? Whinging - we would have died in Egypt but at least we wouldn’t have been hungry when we were killed! And whose fault is it? Moses! Through whom God had saved his people time and again!
Can you see this pack of humans at their worst? They sound just like my kids when they were young - no matter what you gave them, or did for them, they always wanted more. I can still hear: “There’s never anything to eat in this house” and then a slammed door.
Have a good week.
