Careers & Vet Information
Careers Corner
I hope that everyone is surviving well in our current climate and I am sure we all have our fingers crossed (and are saying a few prayers) so that we will not have to go through a school closure due to COVID-19.
Careers for Years 9 & 10
This week I am going to start with information about Careers for Year 9 and Year 10.
We are about to begin working with a program called “The Careers Department” which is a platform for the students to look at their possible post school options. It is an excellent program and will provide the students with extra motivation to work hard throughout school as they will have more focus and understanding of why school and their subjects are important to them.
Year 10 students should have completed making their subject choices for Year 11 and 12. These choices (signed hard copy) were due on Mrs Avery’s desk yesterday (Thursday). This was done online and Mrs Avery went through the process with the students this week. There is also a link to all the different subject area videos, and the information session, which is in the Careers OneNote Team that the students have access to. This is in lieu of our traditional Information Evening. Hopefully you have had a chance to have a look at this.
It has been wonderful to see many of the Year 10 students over the past few weeks and hopefully I have been able to help them a little with the selection process or at least get them thinking about their subjects for the next couple of years. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like any information or assistance.
I would like to remind everyone that we are able to do Work Experience at the moment AS LONG AS THE EMPLOYER PROVIDES A COPY OF A COVID SAFE POLICY to the school with the usual paperwork.
Year 9 and 10 students can only do this during school time in order to be covered by the school’s insurance.
Year 12
Year 12 are about to complete their last school exams before the Higher School Certificate exams. The Trials begin on Wednesday, 18 August.
Please remember, Year 12, to get plenty of sleep, eat well and get some exercise each week. Have a regular study plan and give it your best shot.
There are many options available to all of you, whether you wish to work, get an apprenticeship or traineeship or attend university. Do your research, please come and see me if you would like some help.
If you are considering university, there are still Early Entry offers available at several universities. Scholarships are opening up so keep an eye out for them and apply, apply, apply!
I am being notified each day of new SRS applications and have begun working through EAS applications with students. We will be looking at the SRS applications before the end of term so if you are thinking of applying the cut-off date is 20 September. You have nothing to lose.
The RSA/RCG courses will be running on 9 and 10 September at this stage, COVID willing and we have over twenty students taking part. All of these students will be sent an online form to be filled in and emailed or handed back to me before 3 September. The money and permission note are due in to the Bursar by Friday, 3 September.
I am constantly being sent information regarding Virtual Tours of many different facilities and I am forwarding these onto the students. I am also putting information in the Careers section of the school website and in their Careers OneNote.
