HSIE/LOTE
9-3 History
This week in 9.3 History, our learning intention has been: I am learning about the key events that happened between 1750 and 1918 so I understand their impact on the world I live in today.
The students have been learning about progressive ideas or movements that emerged during the mid-17th Century. In groups, students researched and created a poster to help teach the class about their idea or movement. The students enjoy working in groups and were creative whilst constructing their posters.

The class will soon be exploring The Industrial Revolution.

Year 11 Business Studies – Virtual Business Day
On Thursday, 29 July, the Year 11 Business Studies class participated in the annual Virtual Business Day event. The day requires students in groups to develop a business plan for a business and then run the business for a day. Staff and students from Years 10 to 12 were invited to attend the event as customers and spend fake money at each of the businesses. The Year 11 students did a fantastic job and created a carnival like atmosphere in the hall by running various businesses offering customers the opportunity to participate in fun-games, win prizes and even get temporary tattoos! Business names included Sugar Rush, Instant Ink, Blind Olympics, Footy Fever and Water Pong. Some happy snaps from the day are included below. Congratulations to Year 11 Business Studies in running a fun and COVID safe day.

Year 8 Geography - Water in the World
On Friday, 23 July, the Year 8 Geography class visited the Science laboratories to learn about the different types of water on Earth and how much of each type exists. Students filled up jugs of water and poured different amounts of water into a fish-tank to represent each water type. The first group had water dyed blue to represent the fresh water on Earth, and only poured a tiny amount of water into the fish-tank filling it up only 3%. They were surprised by the time it took to fill the tank to represent the 97% of salt water on the Earth. The second and third groups, using green and yellow coloured water, repeated the activity but looked at the breakdown of freshwater and surface water. It was a fun way to start a chilly Friday morning – thank you to all students for their participation.

Year 8 Geography – Different Countries and Water
On Thursday, 29 July, the Year 8 Geography class completed a creative writing exercise which required the students to write a story about a photograph. A selection of different photographs which depicted people interacting with water in different countries. In completing the task, students were asked to consider who was writing the story, what was happening and where, why it was happening and what solutions there might be to improve the picture. The students did a good job and below are some samples selected for your enjoyment.
