Theatresports Competition

DRAMA:  At the end of last term, St Clare’s competed in the Diocesan Theatresports Competition at St Pius X Adamstown.  This would involve us competing against a number of schools in the Maitland Newcastle Diocese as St. Clare’s entered teams from Year 9. 10 and 11 Drama into the contest.  The day involved students using their improvisational skills to develop short performances with no preparation.

Year 9 won the day with the highest point score out of all the teams.  This is a phenomenal achievement for a group who had only been performing for 8 weeks.  They were consistent with their scores and produced a very entertaining typewriter scene.  Year 9 was represented by Gemma Eady-Muxlow, Tom Gordon, Josh McGann and Alex Saville.

Year 10 are not currently studying drama as an elective and thus had to rely on all the skills they had learnt in the previous year.  It didn’t take them long however to shake off the rust and start performing with all the physicality and strong character work they had become known for.  This group will make an excellent senior drama class and continued their desire to improve throughout the day.  Year 10 were represented by Will Maslen, Savannah Murray, Lachlan Bell, Jade Coe, Claire Priddle, Megan Pieschel and Elise Miles.

Lastly, The Year 11 team was so excited to compete that they had already decided on their team uniform three weeks in advance.  Nothing screams enthusiastic theatre kid like a bright and colourful fishing shirt.  Our fishermen team were extremely creative with their scenes which were also full of witty jokes and great comic timing.  Year 11 have already bonded as a class and their relationships and teamwork grew stronger throughout the competition.  Year 11 were represented by Kiara Conway, Brady Lambert, Jai Payne, Sienna Thornton and Karma Van Der Merwe.

I would like to congratulate all students who competed for their exceptional behaviour and commitment on the day.  A big thank you to all the parents who assisted with transport.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
