Bill Turner Cup
The St Clare’s Under 15s Girls team competed in the first round of the 2022 Bill Turner Cup last Monday. The Bill Turner Cup is a State-Wide knock-out soccer competition for girls aged 15 and under in 2022. St Clare’s drew a talented Great Lakes Forster side in the first round. The girls started well with some good attacking plays from Sara Harris, Maya Ljumanovic and Charlotte Anderson. However, it was Forster that took the lead early in the first half after a defensive mix up. The St Clare’s girls dug deep and came out firing in the second half. Great play from Ruby Hillyard on the right wing set up Kallee Rutledge for a great equalising goal. Claire Downie then put in a beautifully struck free-kick from well outside the box to put St Clare’s in front with only minutes remaining. In the final seconds St Clare’s added a third, Kallee Rutledge finishing off a nice attacking move for her second goal of the game. It was a great display of character from the girls who never gave in and fought back to progress to the next round. A highlight for the girls were the defensive efforts of Gemma Eady-Muxlow, Tessa Rourke and Elise Zammit who were excellent on the day. St Clare’s face Gloucester in the next round next Wednesday, 25 May.
