Careers & VET Information
Careers Corner
Here we are at the end of another week as the term flies by.
Year 12 should be starting to think about their post school preferences if they have not already done so.
If you are thinking about an apprenticeship or traineeship post school, you need to make sure that you have an up-to-date resume and are aware of the skills you need for any given trade or business.
The Australian Apprenticeship Pathways website has some excellent resources to get you started.
Go to:
Take some time to browse through the information provided. There are many resources to help people initiate many different career options. There are many examples of potential career pathways and Job Pathway charts. This is all designed to assist in the decision making process.
If you would like to consider a university pathway post school, you need to be considering registering with UAC ($73 before the end of September). Every student in Year 12 should have received an email with a UAC pin (please come and see me if you haven’t) and will need their NESA number to get started. Once you have registered and chosen some courses, please register for SRS (Schools Recommendation Scheme) – there is nothing to lose.
You may also be eligible for EAS (Educational Advantage Scheme). St Clare’s students are already automatically in line for adjustment factors due to attendance at an economically disadvantaged school. Please come and see me if you would like some assistance.
Early entry pathways are beginning to open and I will email the information to the students as it comes to hand.
All career information is placed in the relevant Team OneNote for Years 10, 11 and 12.
The Year 12 Hospitality students have attended their compulsory Work Placement at the Sea World HOTEL School at Sea World on the Gold Coast. It is, as always, an excellent opportunity for the students to experience first-hand the many different facets of the Hospitality industry. They have worked in the restaurant, kitchen, back of house, concierge, functions, engineering, room service and food and beverage.
Byron De La Cruz, Leanne Curtis, Astyn Strybis, Rory Russell, Hannah Minett, Billie Dries & Taylor Young
The students, as usual, have been amazing and many thanks go to Mr Laurent Gonfond for his organisation of this Work Placement. It was a pleasure to be with the students.

I have also heard excellent reports from the Year 12 Construction class and their employers regarding their Work Placement a couple of weeks ago. Many thanks go to the employers who have hosted a student for this.
