Bill Turner Cup - Round 2

The St Clare's Bill Turner soccer team have progressed into the third round of the competition after another hard fought 3-1 win.  Once again the girls started slowly and found themselves trailing to an early Gloucester goal.  The fight back began with Maya Ljumanovic levelling the scores before Claire Downie scored an excellent solo goal dribbling past three defenders before finishing nicely at the back post.  The win was sealed 10 minutes from time with a brilliant goal from Kallee Rutledge.  Kallee struck a thundering shot from well outside the box into the top corner of the net after some good midfield play from St Clare's.

Football (The World Game):  Bill Turner Cup Round 2 v GLC Forster Match Report

On the day the squad consisted of the following students:

Lucca Boyling, Ashton Dennis, Rohan Dormor, Cornell Estibeiro, William Gibson, Dylan Kinkade, Max Lawson, Sione Masterantonio, Hendrix McDonagh, Riley Paine, Jade Parvin, Cohen Shoesmith, Samuel Stephens, Nash Syron, Mitchell Van Kampen and Kody Zahra.

On Thursday, 2 June the St Clare’s U15 boys Bill Turner football team played against a well drilled GLC Forster team at Forster due to ground closures locally.  All students played exceptionally well.  Our goalkeeper played superbly at the back.  In the first five or so minutes at the start end of each half the team conceded goals.  Our midfielders played well given the work that was required of them to keep the ball.  The final score was 4-0 to GLC Forster.

A special mention to Claire Downie of Year 9.  Claire was the official referee for this match and performed exceptionally well in this position.  Great work, Claire.

Manning School Futsal Titles

Congratulations to our 19’s school Futsal team, who recently competed in the Manning School Futsal Titles.  Our team played with terrific determination, sportsmanship and skill throughout all their matches, going through the day undefeated!

All players were terrific throughout the day with dominating attacking performances and strong defence across all their pool matches, which resulted in comprehensive 5-2 and 8-2 victories over Taree High 19’s and 16’s respectively.  St Clare’s dominance continued with 9-1 and 13-2 victories over Bulahdelah 19’s and 16’s teams with all St Clare’s players contributing with every player’s name being etched onto the goal scorers sheet.  St Clare’s saved their best performance of the day for the final against Taree High 19’s, where they displayed outstanding attacking flare which lead to numerous terrific team goals, with the team finishing with a comprehensive and emphatic 6-2 victory.  St Clare’s now progress to the regional finals to be held in Coffs Harbour later in the year, congratulations and well done!

Lastly, a big thank you to Mr Laurent Gonfond for his tireless efforts in coaching our school Futsal team, it’s very much appreciated by everyone involved.

13’s, 15’s & 18’s Country Cup Rugby League

Congratulations to our 13’s & 15’s boys Rugby League teams, who travelled to Harry Elliott Oval in Tuncurry to compete in the opening round of the Country Cup on Wednesday, 8 June.  The boys played with terrific skill, toughness and sportsmanship throughout all their matches with some excellent and highly entertaining Rugby League played.

St Clare’s 13’s Rugby League Team

In their only match of the day, due to late team withdrawals from other schools, the St Clare’s 13’s side came up against Great Lakes College.  The boys laid a strong platform early with some well-structured attacking team plays which saw them cross the line for two early tries.  St Clare’s dominated in defence and field position throughout the entire game, displaying great athleticism, skill and flair in attack.  St Clare’s ran away with a comprehensive 24-4 victory.  St Clare’s now progress to the Country Cup Regional finals to be played in Port Macquarie on 23 June.  Well done boys and good luck!

St Clare’s 15’s Rugby League Team

The St Clare’s 15’s came up against a well drilled and physical Taree High team in their opening fixture.  In what was a bruising and see sawing encounter, St Clare’s displayed great defensive efforts under fatigue and athleticism and skill in attack, however Taree High came away eventual winners 12-10.  St Clare’s second round fixture against Great Lakes College was an exciting and entertaining match.  St Clare’s dominated field position and ball possession which led to a couple of well-structured team tries and a well-deserved 16-4 victory.  St Clare’s third and final match was against Wingham High School.  St Clare’s went down 2 tries early, however they didn’t let this rattle them, coming up with a well-structured team try of their own.  However, fatigue and injuries played their role with Wingham running away with the match 20-4.
