Manning School Futsal Titles

Congratulations to our 19’s school Futsal team, who recently competed in the Manning School Futsal Titles.  Our team played with terrific determination, sportsmanship and skill throughout all their matches, going through the day undefeated!

All players were terrific throughout the day with dominating attacking performances and strong defence across all their pool matches, which resulted in comprehensive 5-2 and 8-2 victories over Taree High 19’s and 16’s respectively.  St Clare’s’ dominance continued with 9-1 and 13-2 victories over Bulahdelah 19’s and 16’s teams with all St Clare’s players contributing with every players’ name being etched onto the goal scorers sheet.  St Clare’s saved their best performance of the day for the final against Taree High 19’s, where they displayed outstanding attacking flare which lead to numerous terrific team goals, with the team finishing with a comprehensive and emphatic 6-2 victory.  St Clare’s now progress to the Australasian Champion of Champions finals to be held in Brisbane later in the year, congratulations and well done!

Lastly, a big thank you to Mr Laurent Gonfond for his tireless efforts in coaching our school Futsal team, it’s very much appreciated by everyone involved.

13’s & 18’s Country Cup Rugby League Regional Finals

Congratulations to our 13’s & 18’s boys Rugby League teams, who travelled up to Port Macquarie to compete in the Regional Final of the Country Cup on Thursday, 23 June.  Both teams showcased strong defensive efforts under fatigue, toughness and attacking running games throughout all their matches, with some high quality rugby league played.

The 13’s started their campaign against John Paul College, where they endured a torrid start conceding three quick tries in the opening minutes of the first half.  However, the boys gradually played their way back into the game before half time with strong tackle busting runs, tightened defensive efforts and some well-structured attacking plays.  St Clare’s started the second half strongly with two quick tries of their own, however John Paul College ran out eventual 24-14 winners.  Their second round match against Mackillop College saw an improved defensive attitude from the start of the game which led to St Clare’s dominating ball and field possession for large parts of the match.  St Clare’s dominated the match and scoreboard, scoring some highly entertaining team tries to run away 36-0 winners.  St Clare’s third and final match was against a skilful and well-disciplined St Joseph’s Regional College.  Costly errors and cheap turnovers in their own half saw St Joseph’s capitalise on these mistakes and hurt them on the scoreboard with numerous first and second half tries.  St Joseph’s came away comprehensive 20-0 victors.

The 18’s boys opened up their account against the highly fancied and well drilled Newman College.  In what was an end to end and highly entertaining match, St Clare’s endured and held out multiple attacking raids on their try line and were deservingly awarded with a length of the field breakaway try to open the scoring early in the second half.  St Clare’s held their nerve in the second half to come away 10-nil victors.  St Clare’s faced Melville High School in their second match, in what was a dire opening half for St Clare’s, which saw them commit several ball handling errors and missed tackles which led to Melville jumping out to a 12-nil lead.  St Clare’s regrouped at half time and came out firing in the second half, putting together two well-structured team tries to claw their way back into the game and eventually take the lead 16-12.  Melville scored a late try with 5 minutes left in the match to level the scores 16-all.  In a highly entertaining last couple of minutes which saw both teams have game clinching tries come up agonisingly short, Melville were awarded a penalty on fulltime in front of the St Clare’s posts clinching the game 18-16.  St Clare’s third and final game was against Mackillop.  In what was a physical encounter, injuries, fatigue and several cramping players took its toll on the St Clare’s team.  The boys never gave up and scrambled to save multiple attacking raids on their try line.  However, St Clare’s eventually succumbed to the consistent attacking pressure, losing the match 26-16.

Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs Parvin as well as Lachlan Monks and Will Hogan who contributed as trainers and water runners for their time and dedication in training, coaching and supporting our teams, without their outstanding and tireless efforts events such as this would not be possible.

Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 All Schools Touch

Congratulations to our Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 All Schools girls and boys Touch Football teams, who travelled up to Port Macquarie for the regional championships on Tuesday, 28 June and Wednesday, 29 June.  Both the girls and boys’ teams played with terrific spirit and sportsmanship, playing some entertaining and skilful Touch Football across the entire two days.

Year 7/8 All Schools Touch

Year 9/10 All Schools Touch

The St Clare’s Year 7/8 girls team played amazingly throughout the day, going through all six pool matches undefeated!  The girls game up against St Joseph’s Regional College in their opening round fixture, where after a slow start found their groove and came away with a hard fought 2-1 victory.  St Clare’s second round fixture was against perennial favourites MacKillop.  In what was a high quality and skilful encounter which saw many enterprising attacking plays, St Clare’s finished the game with a well-deserved 1-1 draw.  St Clare’s came up against arch nemesis Taree High in their third round encounter.  The match was a see-sawing, end to end game with great defensive efforts from both teams on their own try lines.  St Clare’s led 3-1 for the majority of the match before conceding late to eventually take the match 3-2.  St Clare’s came away with comprehensive victories against Hasting 7-0, Camden Haven 4-0 and Manning Valley Anglican College 5-0 in their remaining pool matches.  In the final, St Clare’s came up against their earlier opponents from the pool stage, MacKillop.  A tired St Clare’s outfit could not match their earlier efforts against the fast finishing MacKillop, who ran away comprehensive 6-1 winners.  The St Clare’s girls should be proud of their amazing efforts throughout the day and have now qualified for the state finals to be held on the Central Coast later in the year.  Well done girls!

Year 7/8 All Schools Touch - Boys

The St Clare’s Year 9/10 girls team started their campaign with a well-deserved 1-0 victory over Camden Haven.  However, the girls were dealt a reality check in their next 3 pool matches against Taree High, Hastings and St Joseph’s Regional College, going down 6-1, 4-1 and 8-0 respectively.  The girls progressively improved throughout the day with their defensive efforts and attacking formations and saved their best performance for their final match of the day against MacKillop.  Although the girls went down 3-1 in the end, their attitude and determination not to give up saw the match in the balance 1-1 for the majority of the game, however MacKillop were too strong in the end.

Year 9/10 All Schools Touch – Girls

The St Clare’s Year 9/10 boys team came up against Hastings in their opening round fixture.  In a highly entertaining match filled with attacking flare, St Clare’s combined to score multiple team tries to come away comprehensive 5-2 winners.  Just like the girls, St Clare’s struggled against competition heavy weights Taree High School, St Joseph Regional College and MacKillop in their next three pool matches, which saw them endure comprehensive 6-0, 4-1 and 5-0 losses respectively.  The pain continued for St Clare’s in their fifth round match against Camden Haven, who surprised with their consistent attacking raids and skilful play to come away with a comprehensive 7-1 victory.  St Clare’s finished the day against Manning Valley Anglican College.  In a much improved team effort, the boys scored 2 early tries to take the lead 2-1, however costly errors in the end derailed their attacking efforts, letting in a couple of late tries to eventually lose 3-2.
