Careers & VET Information
Careers Corner
I hope that everyone is safe and well. There is quite a bit of information in this edition of Careers Corner.
On Thursday, 28 July the Year 10, 11 and 12 students attended the inaugural Career Quip at Fotheringham Park. There were over 70 stalls with information about many different post school pathways.
The feedback I am receiving is that it was excellent and there was a huge amount of information about many and varied post school pathways – quite a few of which are in the local area. One of the criticisms was that there was not enough time for the students.
We will definitely rethink our timings for next year to give the students more time at each of the information booths.
A huge thank you goes to Glen Bowman, Donna Ballard and all those responsible for the organisation of the day.

Year 10 are well into their mentoring program and by all reports the information evening held last week was a great success. Thanks to all those teachers, parents and students who were able to attend.
We offer three VET courses at St Clare’s at the moment, and these are Construction, Hospitality and Sports Coaching. We have been very fortunate especially with Construction to end up with several fulltime apprenticeships after the students have completed their mandatory Work Placement.
Year 12 – keep your heads up and take things one step at a time. There is once again a huge amount of information about post school pathways available and the ability to look at these virtually which is good for us here in regional NSW. There are also many opportunities to attend “Open Days” – this information is emailed to the students and placed in the respective Careers Team OneNote platforms.
Please keep checking your emails for apprenticeship/traineeship information, job vacancies and university information.
If you are thinking about a University pathway, please register with UAC ($73 before the end of September, $200 after this time). Please apply for as many Early Entry pathways as possible – the information is on each University website. When you register on UAC please apply for SRS as well. There are several categories of EAS (Education Advantage Scheme) so you may qualify for one or more of these.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like some assistance.
