BYOD Devices Setup Instructions for 2023
St Clare’s High School operates a Bring Your Own Device laptop computer scheme (BYOD) and advice regarding suitable devices was distributed earlier in the year.
For the students’ devices to function successfully as part of our Diocesan network they need to be configured in a set manner.
Students MUST be an administrator on their own device. This is necessary for them to add subject specific software and add printers and interact with teachers.
Most new devices sold now come with a version of Windows 11 pre-loaded.
These devices now need to be setup with a non-student (school) email BEFORE they can then join the network in our Diocesan Schools. (This can be done for previous Windows versions also).
To assist parents in doing this, the Diocese has established a website with instructions to allow them to setup most of the laptop before school commences.
The website linked here has sets of instructions for each of the differing licenses for Microsoft Windows 11. Select the relevant set of instructions and follow them closely to setup you BYO Device.
We STRONGLY suggest a parent assist in this process to ensure ALL instructions are carried out correctly.
The Diocese has an education tenant of Microsoft365, that means there are additional educational tools that allow all teachers, K-12 students, and other staff to collaborate, create, communicate and store files, in an ad-free, reliable, secure and controlled virtual environment. All data is stored in Microsoft’s data centres in Australia, thus meeting Australian Privacy Principles.
As part of the Diocesan license with Microsoft, all students and employees can install the Office365 suite on up to FIVE devices by using their diocesan credentials.
Office365 can be loaded onto Windows laptops and desktop computers using an installer package from MNConnect (see instructions here). Tablets, smart-phones, and Macs the Office products are downloaded from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
At St Clare’s High School, we also pay for a student licence for Adobe Creative Cloud.
The installation instructions for this software suite can be found at the link below.
