Season of Creation
Every year the worldwide Christian community comes together to focus on the environmental needs of our world and encourage followers of Jesus to take time to care for creation during a month-long celebration. This Season of Creation started on 1 September and will end on 4 October, the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi. During this Season of Creation church leaders from around the world call upon us to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, ecological conversion, and a commitment to actively care for the earth and all inhabitants of the earth. This year the theme, Let Peace and Justice Flow, calls on us to join the river of justice and peace, to take up climate and ecological justice, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity.

As Christians, we are tasked with being stewards of the earth that care for our common home to protect the rights of others and ensure just access to the environment. In the words of St Francis of Assisi, 'Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that have received--only what you have given.'

The Catholic teaching of stewardship has been the focus of our Year 9 Religious Studies unit ‘Care for our Common Home’ in Term 3. For their assessment, Year 9 Students created short advertisement films about the 2023 Season of Creation to encourage others to make changes to help the environment. I commend Year 9 on their efforts in this and the creation of engaging advertisements that capture the purpose of the Season of Creation.
