Senior Visual Arts Excursion to the Naked & Nude Art Prize at the Manning Regional Art Gallery
At the end of Term 3, and to complement their recently unit of work about the body in art, a group of Preliminary HSC students, accompanied by Ms Campbell-Ellis, ventured to the local Manning Regional Art Gallery to immerse themselves in the world of Visual Arts and view the biennial ‘Naked & Nude’ Art Prize.

Students were greeted at the gallery by the Assistant Gallery Director, Jane Hosking, who gave the students insight into the Prize informing them when the prize first began, what the prize is about and letting them know some details about a select few artworks in this year’s prize.
The art prize has grown to become a prestigious national event on the Australian Arts Calendar, with this year’s prize pool totalling $37,000. This is an acquisitive art prize and the winning work from each exhibition is acquired by the Friends of the Manning Regional Art Gallery Committee and donated to the Manning Regional Art Gallery’s permanent collection. This year’s exhibition was judged by Director of the Newcastle Art Gallery, Ms Lauretta Morton OAM, who announced the winner to be Brisbane artist, Summer Aldis for her realistic life drawing work, ‘Companion II’. Students were impressed by the talent and beauty of the winning work, particularly noting the skill employed by the artist in her photographic realistic drawing technique.
