Peace Prayers

The Year 9 Religious Studies curriculum focuses on how we can live justly in a modern world by following Catholic Social Teachings and promoting the dignity of every human person.  In Genesis 1:26-27 it outlines that God made us in his image and we are all born with inherent dignity and the right to live our life to the fullest.  Due to the injustices in our world, this is not always possible.

Students focused on the symbols of peace in the world, including the paper crane, which has become synonymous with hope and healing after times of war.  In working towards folding these cranes, Year 9 students focused on the story of Sadako and the Thousand paper cranes, looking at the injustice caused by the use of Atomic Weapons and war.  This story continues to ring true in today’s world and now the paper cranes serve as a reminder that war will always cause injustice and as Catholics, we should always promote and pray for peace, healing and hope.

The 2023 cranes are now on display in the front office and every year students will continue to contribute to the display to recognise the ongoing need for peace and justice.
