Staff Development Day – Monday 13 October
A reminder that Day 1 of Term 4 will be a Staff Development Day focused on the implementation and refinement of the new curriculum. All KLA teams will be working collaboratively to program and plan for upcoming syllabus changes or enhance current units. In addition, we will continue our important work around inclusion, with a focus on NCCD as part two of our professional learning. This day will be a valuable opportunity to strengthen our teaching practice and ensure we are well-prepared to support every learner.
Parent Survey
I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the families who took the time to complete our recent survey. Your feedback is invaluable and will play a key role in shaping our planning for 2026 and beyond. The results are shared below. The survey link was emailed to all families last week and will remain open for another week if you wish to contribute.
Building works
Over the holiday break, we’ll see significant works underway across the school, including repairs to the staff work area, front office, staff carpark, and oval, addressing damage caused by recent flooding. A special thanks goes to our dedicated staff who have spent the past few weeks completely packing up their workspaces to allow for new carpet and painting - a massive task that unearthed many treasures from years gone by! Your efforts are deeply appreciated.
Pilgrims of Hope
We extend our warmest wishes to Denise Ryan, Vince Ryan, and Tanille Gardner as they embark on a special pilgrimage over the next three weeks, walking in the footsteps of St Paul through the sacred landscapes of Italy and Greece. This journey is not only a physical adventure but a deeply spiritual one - an opportunity to reflect, reconnect, and grow in faith. May this experience enrich their hearts, strengthen their spirits, and bring renewed inspiration to their lives and work within our school community.
Farewell to Mr Ian Evans
Ian has a been a valued member of the St Clare's Community for the past 22 years. Over this time, he has been a Senior Leader of Wellbeing and Careers Adviser and over the past five years a longstanding member of the Casual team. His dedication and commitment to the community has been unwavering and he will be missed by both staff and students.

Levi faced several problems during his project, which he successfully overcame through commitment and motivation to succeed with his Major Design project.
Samuel Jackman – Industrial Technology (Metal)
Teacher: Brad Hart
Samuel Jackman Designed and constructed a Mailbox. Samuel designed this for his home for easily accessibility to mailbox, making it mechanised to open. He also incorporated a solar panelled light for visibility at night and solar panel to avoid battery/power consumption. Samuel incorporated traditional scroll work to add a vintage theme to the project.
Kobi Critchley – Industrial Technology (Metal)

Farewell Year 12 – Wishing You All the Best in Your HSC Exams!
As Term 3 draws to a close, we take a moment to celebrate and farewell our incredible Year 12 students as they prepare to embark on their HSC exams. This marks the end of a remarkable 13-year journey of schooling, filled with growth, friendships, challenges, and unforgettable memories.

The final weeks have been a true reflection of the vibrant spirit and unity of our school community. From the dress-up day featuring Minions, famous groups, and the ever-popular “anything but a bag” challenge, to the amusing Favourite Teacher Day, our seniors have left a lasting impression with their energy, humour, and school pride.

A highlight of their final celebrations was the fantastic trip to Stoney Aqua Park, where laughter and sunshine made for a perfect day of fun and relaxation. Their farewell concluded today with a Mass celebrated by Fr Kevin Corrigan and Fr Christogonus Okoro bringing students, staff, and families together in prayer, reflection and gratitude. Special thanks to our honoured guests who attended the celebration including the Assistant Director John Tobin, and members of the Secular Franciscan of the Manning Joy Cusack, Janet Hawes and David Hawes.

We acknowledge the incredible dedication of our St Clare’s teachers and the unwavering support of parents and carers, who have guided and nurtured these young adults to this milestone. Your efforts have helped shape them into the confident, capable individuals they are today, ready to begin a new chapter beyond school.

To our Year 12s: as you head into the holidays, I encourage you to study hard and stay focused. The effort you put in now will be rewarded in your exams and beyond. You’ve already made us proud - now it’s time to show the world what you’re capable of.

Wishing Everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday!
As we wrap up a busy term, we wish all our students, families, and staff a safe, restful, and joyful holiday break. May this time be filled with relaxation, connection, and a chance to recharge. Thank you for your continued support and contribution to our school community - we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 4!

Year 12’s Final Week – A Farewell to Remember
What a week it has been for the Class of 2025. In their final days of high school, our Year 12 students celebrated with spirit, humour and heart. It was a great way to finish what has been a big six years, and as a school community, we could not be prouder of the young adults they have become.
The week started on Monday with Minions Day, which brought a wave of yellow and a lot of laughs. On Tuesday, students dressed up as Iconic Groups, and we saw everything from Mean Girls to the cast of Kath and Kim around the playground.
Wednesday was a favourite for many, with students dressing as their favourite teachers. There were some very accurate impressions. The day ended with the annual Boys vs Girls Netball Match, which was full of fun and friendly competition.
On Thursday, students led a wonderful Graduation Assembly where they reflected on their time at school and celebrated the friendships and memories they have made. They then headed off to Stoney Aqua Park for their Community Day, which was a great chance to relax and enjoy time together after a busy term.

The week ended on Friday with a beautiful Graduation Mass shared with families, staff and students. It was a special way to finish their journey at St Clare’s.
It has been a real pleasure being Year Coordinator for this group over the past six years. They have made a lasting impression on our school, and we wish them all the very best for their upcoming HSC exams and whatever comes next.
Thank you Year 12. We are proud of you, and we will miss you.
Mr Collins
Year 12 Leader of Wellbeing & Engagement
On Monday 22 September, Year 7 and several teachers travelled to Old Bar Surf Lifesaving Club to participate in their Reflection Day for 2025. We were blessed with beautiful weather.
We arrived at the Surf Club and began the day with a Paraliturgy. I would like to thank Will Lovern, Hudson and Nate Marriott for volunteering and reading so well.
We then talked about the expectations for the day, and the students were placed into groups by Mr Buckland.
Morning tea followed and then the groups were sent off to their activities. Each group had about 20 minutes on each activity. These included: Games in the park with Mr Hutchison; colouring in and card games in the surf club with Mr Koenig; beach games with Mr Higgins; sand modelling with Mrs Brown; beach walk and clean-up with Mrs Merillo and a swim with Mrs McCann and the Lifeguards.

A sausage sandwich and drink was supplied for lunch – thanks to Mr Buckland and Mr Higgins for getting this ready.
There was a small amount of time for a free swim and then the day concluded with the students writing a letter to themselves which will be opened when they get to the end of Year 12.
Some of the students missed out on doing this and Mr Buckland will be arranging for them to complete this letter.
The students were wonderful and participated well in all the activities. They spent time getting to know each other better and it was lovely to see the interactions happening. This is a great indication of things to come.
I would like to thank Year 7 for the way in which they participated and interacted with each other.
I would also like to thank all the staff who gave up the day to be with the students. Mr Hutchison, Mr Koenig; Mr Higgins; Mrs Brown; Mrs Merillo and of course Mr Buckland, the Year 7 Leader of Wellbeing.
Thanks again to everyone.

Important Security Update for Student BYOD Devices
Action is required for students with BYOD Windows 10 devices as Windows 10 will soon no longer be supported by Microsoft.
To ensure our student device security students should upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible.
Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will end on 14 October 2025, meaning it will no longer receive critical security updates.
To stay protected and ensure optimal performance, it is strongly recommended that all students with BYOD Windows 10 devices follow Microsoft’s instructions and upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. There is no charge for this upgrade.
Why this matters:
- Windows 10 will no longer receive Microsoft updates after 14 October 2025, leaving devices exposed to threats.
- Upgrading to Windows 11 helps reduce security risks.
- Student Work Protection: Staying current helps safeguard assignments, projects, and personal data.
Ways to install Windows 11 - Microsoft Support
Upgrade to Windows 11: FAQ - Microsoft Support
How do I check what version of Windows am I running?
Select Start > Settings > System, then select About. You then see Edition, Version, and OS Build information.
We encourage all families with Student Windows 10 computers to begin the upgrade process now to avoid last-minute disruptions.

NSW All Schools Touch – State Final
On 16 and 17 September, three St Clare’s High School teams, the Year 7/8 Girls, Year 9/10 Girls, and Year 9/10 Boys, travelled to Manly, Sydney, to compete in the prestigious NSW All Schools Touch State Final. The competition brought together some of the best school touch football teams from across the state, providing our students with a valuable opportunity to test their skills against high-quality opposition.
Year 7/8 Girls Team
The Year 7/8 Girls team impressed with a strong showing across the tournament. They opened their campaign with a confident 3–1 victory over Carroll College, showcasing quick ball movement and strong defensive work. Building on this momentum, they backed it up with a 4–2 win against Stella Maris in round two, displaying excellent teamwork and determination in attack. Their third match saw them defeat Mater Maria 4–1, again highlighting their consistency and fitness. The girls faced their toughest challenge in round four against Hunter Sports High, the eventual state champions, going down 4–0 despite a spirited performance. Their results secured them a place in the quarter finals, where they fought hard but were eventually defeated 4–2 by Westfield Sports High in a closely contested match. Overall, the team demonstrated outstanding skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament.
Back Row: Lanae Rutledge, Brooklyn Williams, Eva Sansom, Milly Atchison, Indie Hicks, Zarlie McDermott, Alice Plant and Calli Hammond
Front Row: Hayley Young, Tessa Saville, Darcy Brown, Lara Godfrey, Makyra Clarke and Stevie Peter
Year 9/10 Girls Team
The Year 9/10 Girls team also displayed courage and determination in their games. They began strongly, securing a 5–3 win over Muswellbrook High School with quick attacking plays and strong finishes. However, they encountered tough opposition in their following matches, with Mudgee High proving too strong in a 7–1 result. The challenge continued against Ballina Coast High, one of the most dominant teams in the draw, who ran out 10–0 winners. The girls’ final match was against eventual state champions Hunter Sports High, and despite their best efforts, St Clare’s went down 7–0. Although results didn’t always fall their way, the girls showed persistence, commitment, and pride in representing their school on such a big stage.
Back Row: Pyper Cross, Tia Drysdale, Jess Uwland, Beth Harris, Mia Wells, Taylor Brown and Lucy Millard
Front Row: Zoe Baker, Jayda Theophanous, Stella O’Connor, Lilah Earley and Miller Morrissey
Year 9/10 Boys
The Year 9/10 Boys team had a mixed but encouraging tournament campaign. They started with a hard-fought game against St Augustine’s, where despite creating several scoring opportunities, they went down 3–1. Their second match against Mid North Coast rivals St Joseph’s Port Macquarie was another close contest, but the boys were edged out 2–1 in a tight finish. Showing determination to bounce back, they played a thrilling 4–4 draw against Carroll College, where both sides traded tries in an exciting contest that kept spectators on edge. The boys saved their best performance for their final round match, producing a dominant display in a 5–0 win over St John XXII Catholic College. Their strong finish was a testament to their resilience, teamwork, and growth across the competition.

Harry Well’s NRL 9’s
On Tuesday 23 September, St Clare’s High School proudly sent four teams, 14’s Girls, 16’s Girls, 14’s Boys and 16’s Boys, to Port Macquarie to compete in the Harry Wells NRL 9’s Tournament. It was an exciting day of fast-paced rugby league, with many students experiencing the game for the very first time. All four teams displayed strong determination, skill development, and plenty of school spirit, producing some excellent results against tough opposition.
14’s Girls
The 14’s Girls team played with enthusiasm and attacking flair, especially considering many players were new to rugby league. Their opening 17–4 win against Kempsey Adventist was built on quick play-the-balls and fearless running, with strong support play ensuring tries were finished with confidence. In defence, they held a tight line and chased hard to shut down breaks, showing great communication. Their momentum carried into a 29–4 victory over Melville High, where the girls displayed slick ball movement and spread the defence wide to create space. Against St Paul’s College, they fought bravely in a thrilling 14–12 loss — both sides scored three tries, but St Paul’s edged ahead with a conversion. The girls finished strongly with a 17–4 win over Kempsey High, showing their resilience in both attack and defence to end the tournament on a high.
Back Row: Lila Ryan, Darcy Miller, Ellara Collins, Milly Atchison, Eva Sansom, Luca Brown
Front Row: Liliana Maurirere, Aaliyah McIntosh, Maher, Darcy Brown, Lanae Rutledge
Absent: Chloe Zamora
16’s Girls
The 16’s Girls showed tremendous spirit, playing with heart in every match. Their opening 5–4 win over Melville High was a defensive battle where their tackling pressure and scramble defence proved the difference. In their following matches, they showed strong determination in attack — running hard at the line, offloading under pressure and creating multiple scoring chances — but were narrowly beaten 13–8 by both Chatham High and St Paul’s College. Despite fatigue setting in, the girls never stopped competing, showing brave tackling against more experienced sides. Their final game against Camden Haven ended 21–8, but the team left the field proud, knowing they had gained invaluable experience and improved their defensive structures throughout the day.
Back Row: Jarrah Ingram, Taylor Brown, Mia Wells, Isabella Colliar, Abbie Walker and Kya Henwood
Front Row: Ava Wakelin, Lucy Millard, Beth Harris, Lilah Earley, Darcey Oades and Jakayla Minns
14’s Boys
The 14’s Boys team were a powerhouse in both attack and defence throughout the day. Their 19–0 opening win against Macksville High showed their dominance — sharp passing, explosive running and committed tackles kept their opponents scoreless. They backed this up with another shutout, 13–0 against Hastings Secondary College, where their defensive line was rock-solid and their attack flowed seamlessly with strong support runners finishing off breaks. Against St Paul’s College, the boys continued their excellent form, winning 22–5 thanks to aggressive defence that forced turnovers and quick counter-attacking play. Their only loss came in the final match, going down 20–4 to Camden Haven despite fighting hard in defence. Their performance across the tournament highlighted their strong attacking combinations and disciplined tackling.
Back Row: Liam Rodgers, Hunter McNeil, Boyce Bissett, Xavier Hammond, Liam Rodgers, Jai Mackie
Front Row: Eli Saville, Finn Gregory, Ashton Robertson, Charlie Crittenden, Hayden Sutton
16’s Boys
The 16’s Boys team produced some of the most exciting rugby league of the day, mixing physicality with skill. They opened with a strong 16–5 win over Kempsey High, where their aggressive line speed and quick offloads set the tone. In a close second-round battle, they were narrowly edged out 16–13 by Hastings Secondary College, despite showing great attacking creativity and determined defence. They bounced back with a commanding 17–4 win over Wauchope High, where their forwards laid the platform and the backs capitalised with smart running lines. Their final 17–4 win against Chatham High capped off the day, with disciplined defence denying opportunities and their attack finishing clinically.
Back Row: Nicholas Pereira, Mason Kesby, Marley Brown, Harry Martin, Damian Gatt, Tayte Rutledge and Koen Paff
Front Row: Noel Saunders, Arlie Atchison, Lachlan Polson, Logan Clarke, Noah Buckland and Kobi Egan
Absent: Maximus Schilt and Oscar Ryan
A big thank you must go to the staff, parents and students who made the day possible. From early morning travel to organisation and support on the sidelines, the contributions of everyone involved ensured the players could focus on representing St Clare’s with pride.

It has been very pleasing to have had interviews with many of the Year 12 students. Please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange a meeting so that we can go through your options.
Several universities are offering One on One mentoring sessions (virtually) with students. The Year 12 students would be able to speak to a university student one on one and ask any questions they might have about any aspect of university life. Please check on each University website. There are also many Open Days – this is excellent as you can see what University life is like.
Please check out scholarships at the various universities and TAFE. There are several on offer including a regional TAFE scholarship. The Teach Rural and CSO Teaching Scholarship are up for grabs so if you are considering a teaching pathway post school please apply. You have to be in it to win it and have got nothing to lose by applying.
If you are considering a TAFE pathway, get on to the TAFE NSW website and have a look at the many courses they offer from short courses through various Certificates and Diplomas and Bachelor Degrees. You don’t need an ATAR for this pathway.
Year 11 students have just completed their final Preliminary Exams and Tasks. After this time some of them may be able to discontinue a subject. It is very important that if they are considering this, that they talk to their teachers, myself and Mrs Avery.

The Year 10 students have now made their subject selections for 2026 and the process of working out the lines and classes is well under way. Thanks to Mrs Avery and Mr McKee for their work on this.
If a student is interested in completing an SBAT in Years 11 and 12, now is the time to get the paperwork started. Please come and see me if you wish to do this. Please also remember that if you choose this pathway then you are responsible for catching up on any work that you have missed while at work or at TAFE. Once the SBAT/TVET is started then this can count as at least two of your units for Preliminary and HSC work.
Thanks to those Year 10 students who have submitted an EOI for TVET in 2025. They have now been submitted onto the EVET site and we are waiting to see whether the courses will run in 2025.
Please remember that there is usually more than one pathway into a preferred career and talk to your teachers and parents about your choices. I am happy to meet with anyone who would like some help with this.
I will be organising another White Card course on 28 October this year. In order to complete the White Card course a student must have turned 14 by the time the course is run. If you are thinking about doing this course, you will also need to have a USI number. This takes about five minutes to complete and has no cost involved. The cost for this is $150 and the course is run by Learning Live.
If anyone would like to do Work Experience, please go and get the paperwork from Mrs Lovern. We have had many students doing this over the past nine months and it is an excellent way to introduce yourself to a prospective employer.
I am happy to meet with anyone to discuss anything to do with post school pathways.
