Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
We have now moved in to the second half of Term 3. Term 3 is always a very busy time with so many things happening especially for Year 12 and Year 11. As a school we are in the process of planning for the 2024 school year, determining what subjects will run in Years 9, 10 and 11: organising staffing, reviewing, and updating teaching and learning programs etc. All while ensuring, we continue to provide a quality education, opportunities for students to engage in the learning process and continue their development as young people, to be successful and get them where they need to go.
The school executive and staff have become increasingly concerned with student attendance. With an increasing number of students missing whole school days or arriving to school late or leaving school early. School attendance is a fundamental building block of a student’s education and to be successful. While a teenager might think that attending school is just a mundane routine, its importance cannot be overstated. Regular school attendance goes beyond just physical presence; it sets the stage for a myriad of opportunities for cognitive, social, and personal development that contribute to a well-rounded individual.
Consistent school attendance is directly linked to academic success. Attending classes regularly enables students to engage with the curriculum, grasp new concepts, and participate in interactive discussions. Missing school days hampers the continuity of learning, making it harder for students to keep up with lessons and assessments. This gap in knowledge can lead to academic struggles and a lack of confidence, potentially resulting in lower grades and reduced enthusiasm for learning.
School attendance also fosters social interactions and emotional growth. It is within the classroom and school environment that students build friendships, develop communication skills, and learn to work collaboratively. These interactions contribute to the development of emotional intelligence, empathy, and conflict resolution skills. Frequent school absenteeism can isolate students, hindering their ability to build these essential life skills and potentially leading to feelings of loneliness or alienation.
Regular school attendance instils a sense of routine and responsibility that carries over into other aspects of life. By adhering to a school schedule, students learn time management, punctuality, and the importance of meeting commitments. These habits are transferrable skills that are highly valued in the professional world, contributing to a student's preparedness for future career endeavours.
School attendance can cultivate a curiosity for learning. Engaging with teachers and classmates in a structured setting may spark questions and intellectual exploration. Students who attend school consistently tend to develop a genuine thirst for knowledge that extends beyond the classroom. This mindset of lifelong learning becomes a driving force for personal growth and continuous self-improvement.
Education is a steppingstone to a successful future. Opening doors for a myriad of opportunities to access a variety of career pathways, that may include higher education at university, TAFE, and other educational colleges both here and overseas, to apprenticeships, traineeships, and other work opportunities. Moreover, it prepares students for the challenges of adulthood by equipping them with critical thinking skills and a broad knowledge base.
As the Principal of this great school, I ask parents and carers to support the school in ensuring that your child attends school regularly and therefore can make the most of the opportunity to learn and become the best of themselves.
“Each day missed is a missed opportunity for growth and enrichment.”
‘Together with Christ we serve our community’.
Inspired by GOSPEL VALUES and the practical examples of St Mary of The Cross MacKillop and St Clare of Assisi our Mission is to…
CONNECT LEARN ASPIRE RESPECT ENGAGE
Kind Regards

It was great to celebrate St Clare’s Feast Day with the whole school community again!
St Clare has always been acknowledged for her strong will, humility, and desire to help others. We were able to come together and celebrate our patron saint through guest presentations, Mass and community activities.

Students began the day with Ignite Youth, who shared their life experiences and spoke passionately about the impact of God on their path. Students rounded out the day with a mix of stalls and games run by each Clare group. This included a photo booth, petting zoo, sack race and various other activities, which raised $2,100 for the Mary MacKillop fund which supports disadvantaged students from our community.

Many thanks to our Parish Priest, Fr Keven Corrigan, and Deacon Vince Ryan for their leadership during our mass. Thank you also to Ministry Coordinator, Jason Koenig, for preparing the celebration, along with RE Leader of Learning, Tanille Gardner for all her assistance. A final thank you to Music Teacher, Amanda Brooks, and the music students who continue to enhance our community gatherings through their talents.

Year 12 Major Textiles Projects
Congratulations to Year 12 Textiles and Design students who after 11 months of hard work and dedication, produced their Major Textiles Projects. Each project highlighted the interests and talents of the student and demonstrated excellent use of the elements and principles of design and historical, cultural, contemporary, and technological influences. The students should be very proud of their projects and achievements throughout Year 12. Well done!

This week in Year 10 Food Technology, the students created a fun cob loaf which was an easy and healthy recipe. They thoroughly enjoyed it, changing up the repertoire. The students had a choice to use a variety of fresh ingredients or make it dairy free. Cob loaf has been a party pleaser for many years! Once filled simply with spinach, cheese, and French onion soup packet mix at an 80s Christmas bash, it's now been blasted into iconic status. Year 10 Food Technology sure did this recipe justice. What would be your families favourite cob loaf recipe? If you have any inspiring recipes, please email: sally.mackay@mn.catholic.edu.au

This quote is very fitting "Never stop doing things for others. Sometimes, those little things occupy the biggest part of their heart." Year 10 Students, Irene Bijesh, Katie Tiedeman, Ailey Boere, Shae-Lee Lacey and Tia Moore certainly put smiles on the faces of the needy in our community. Not only did they prepare and serve a nutritious meal, but they also engaged with the people, giving meaning to their day. This commendable program, volunteering at the Community Kitchen, gives students a sense of the importance of helping those in need which is sometimes overlooked in our consumer driven world. Congratulations students, keep up this concern for others.

I would like to remind everyone to please check their emails. I am receiving a great deal of information about job vacancies, apprenticeships, and traineeships. Even if it is not your first choice, it can give you some options if you do not get into the course, you want straight away.
It has been very pleasing to have had interviews with many of the Year 12 students. Please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange a meeting so that we can go through your options.

Year 10
The Year 10 students have now made their subject selections for 2024 and the process of working out the lines and classes is well under way. Thanks to Mrs Avery and Ms Posadas for their work on this.
If a student is interested in completing an SBAT in Years 11 and 12, now is the time to get the paperwork started. Please come and see me if you wish to do this. Please also remember that if you choose this pathway then you are responsible for catching up on any work that you have missed while at work or at TAFE. Once the SBAT/TVET is started then this can count as at least two of your units for Preliminary and HSC work.
I must apologise about the incorrect information that I had in the last edition of Careers Corner regarding the HNEH Nursing SBATS for 2024. There has only been one Nursing SBAT confirmed with HNEH to start in 2024. Congratulations to Ruby Hillyard on her successful application. I am still waiting to hear if late applications for this are possible.
Thanks to those Year 10 students who have submitted an EOI for TVET in 2024. They are currently under consideration at the CSO and I will be submitting them into the EVET site in the coming weeks.
Please remember that there is usually more than one pathway into a preferred career and talk to your teachers and parents about your choices. I am happy to meet with anyone who would like some help with this.
If anyone would like to do Work Experience, please come and get the paperwork from me.
I am happy to meet with anyone to discuss anything to do with post school pathways.
