Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
As we approach the conclusion of yet another outstanding academic year, it's time to contemplate the remarkable journey we've shared. The 2023 school year stands as a testament to growth, accomplishments, and indelible moments that have not only shaped our students as individuals but have also woven a rich tapestry of experiences, making St Clare's truly special.
From captivating performances and competitive events to special assemblies, reflection days, camps, and retreats, each occasion has played a pivotal role in forming the unique fabric of the St Clare’s community. The dedication exhibited by our students in their academic pursuits deserves applause. Noteworthy achievements in the HSC, outstanding results in external examinations, and victories in competitions underscore their innovative thinking, commitment to learning, and hard work. The collaborative efforts of students, parents, and teachers have undeniably contributed to the academic success celebrated at our recent awards ceremonies.
Beyond the confines of the classroom, our students have excelled in diverse extracurricular activities, showcasing their talents, teamwork, and a steadfast commitment to making a positive impact. Whether in sports, arts, or community service, these endeavours have not only enriched their lives but have also brought honour to our school and their families.
The thriving school community owes its success to the steadfast support and involvement of students, teachers, and support staff. Volunteering at the Taree Community Kitchen, fundraising for St Vincent de Paul, participating in events, and collaborating on various initiatives have strengthened the connection and understanding of what it truly means to be a part of St Clare's. The ethos of "Never seeing a need without doing something about it," encapsulated in St Mary MacKillop's statement, pulsates through our school. Our students have unequivocally demonstrated their commitment to making a difference.
As we say farewell to our graduating Year 12 students and those from other year groups embarking on new opportunities elsewhere, we celebrate their accomplishments and the lasting impact they've had on our school. We extend our best wishes for their future endeavours, confident that they will carry with them the values and lessons learned at St Clare's.
In bidding farewell, we also acknowledge and celebrate the positive impact of several staff members who have contributed significantly to St Clare's over the years. To Phil Chalmers, Maureen Busby, Peter Nicholls, Peter Briscoe-Hough, Laura Boere, Stacy Posadas, Rachael Bartley, Leilanie Andrews, Angela Heiss, Michael Knight and Karen Elliott, we express our gratitude and wish them all the best in their retirement and/or future pursuits.
Finally, our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who played a role in making this school year a success. To our dedicated teachers and staff, thank you for your unwavering commitment to education. To parents, thank you for your continuous support and partnership. And to our students, thank you for making St Clare's great, with the enthusiasm, passion, and the joy you shared with us every day.
As we conclude this chapter for 2023, let's all carry forward the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the memories created into the future. Wishing everyone a restful and rejuvenating summer break.
As I take up a new opportunity and challenge in Armidale, I look forward to hearing continued great things about St Clare's.

This week was our last Vinnies fundraiser of the year with a festive twist! Everyone got into the Christmas spirit through their creative outfits. Well done to Year 11, Mrs Lovern and Mrs Davidson for organising the Christmas barbeque. A special mention to Santa and his elves for braving the heat for some great photo moments!

Year 7 Picture Books Assessment Tasks
The English faculty are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our Year 7 students in their recent assessment task for the Narrative module. They not only showcased their creative flair but also demonstrated a deep understanding of the storytelling process.
In this assessment, students were tasked with creating their very own picture books — a dynamic project that allowed them to demonstrate their understanding of narrative from as well as visual literacy skills. The results were nothing short of remarkable.
Moreover, this assessment served as a foundation for the DigiEd event that followed in subsequent weeks.
We commend our Year 7 students for their exceptional work and dedication to this assessment.
Ms Davy
Leader of Learning - English
Year 7 students recently embarked on an exciting journey through DigiEd, an innovative workshop merging technology with storytelling. This yearly event challenged students to create captivating stop-motion claymation films.
Students were guided through a process of storyboarding, building sets, and bringing their clay characters to life frame by frame, honing both their technical skills and storytelling abilities. DigiEd focused on enhancing narrative structures and character development, encouraging students to think critically and communicate effectively.

The day was filled with extraordinary creativity, fostering collaboration and a sense of accomplishment among our Year 7 cohort. Well done to our incredible students — tomorrow's storytellers and innovators, and the dedicated English faculty — who made DigiEd an unforgettable experience!

Year 8 Design Portfolio – “From the Page to the Stage”
The English faculty are thrilled to share the remarkable achievements of our Year 8 students in the recent assessment task for the module "From the Page to the Stage." This task involved students developing a Design Portfolio that showcased their ingenuity and dedication to bringing a dramatic text alive on the stage.
The task at hand was no small feat; with students reading and analysing a dramatic text and then designing sets, costumes, make-up and promotional material to show their understanding. These portfolios offered a vivid display of their ability to transform words into living, breathing performances.
Throughout the design process, our Year 8 students worked to weave their critical and creative skills seamlessly into their projects. As part of the task, student were required to annotate their work allowing them to clearly articulate their dramatic vision and offer insights into their interpretive choices, character development, and staging ideas.
This outstanding selection of portfolio pieces from Georgia Sparks received 100% for the incredible innovation, commitment to design process, sophisticated insight into play studied and clearly articulated dramatic vision. Exceptional work, Georgia.

St Clare’s High School is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school and as such students are required to have their own laptop. The school acknowledges that laptops will require repair from time to time and that students will sometimes forget their laptops or forget to charge them. The library has a limited number of laptops that it can loan out to students. As of Term 1 2024 school laptops can only be loaned out to students:
- for a maximum of 2 days without a note from home, after this a note will be required.
- for 1 or more weeks with a note from home explaining why you need a laptop and for how long.
Students who require a laptop will need to collect this from the library, between 8:45 am – 9 am and need to return it to the library by 3:25 pm the same day.
If a student fails to return a laptop to the library, they run the risk of being unable to borrow in the future.
Students will need to see Mrs Minihan to borrow and return their laptops each day.
There are to be no back packs or school bags taken into the library. All students will need to store their bags outside in the bag racks. If students have their laptop in a laptop bag, they may bring this into the library.
There is to be no food or drink (excluding water) brought into the library or any library space at any time. Students need to eat and drink before they enter the library. Food means anything that you put in your mouth and eat including chewing gum which is banned at school and lollipops, sherbet, Fizz Wizz and icy poles. Drinks include, soft drink, milk drinks, energy drinks, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, juices, and any variation of these.
At this time St Clare's Library will be OPEN at the following times during 2024:
Tuesday - Before School, Recess and Lunch
Wednesday - Before School and Lunch
Thursday - Before School and Recess
Friday - Lunch
These times may change, and all times could vary from time to time, when this happens all care will be given to advertise students of any changes.

Today I experienced the true meaning of caring for others in a non-judgmental manner. Four Year 9 students volunteered at the community kitchen they were truly the face of Jesus. They not only prepared a nutritious meal they served it to the people in need in our community with a happy and friendly manner. The students decorated the kitchen giving a Christmas atmosphere and this, together with the Christmas cards made by students, put smiles on the people’s faces accessing the kitchen. The school and their families can certainly be proud of these young students. Ruby Polson, Miley Cox, Marley Brown and Tessa Rourke accompanied by Mr Matt Hanlon. Well done!

The final edition for 2023 - Wow! Where did that go?
I am going to begin this edition with some information for Year 12 2023 Graduates.
- Your ATARS were released on Friday. Thanks to all those students who let us know how they went. There were some wonderful results as usual. Please let us know your result.
- Your access to your school email ceases Friday, 15 December. Please make sure that you have provided a personal email address to NESA, UAC or any other company that contacts you re important information that has been previously sent to your school email.
- Thanks to everyone who has returned their sign-out forms. Part of the sign-out process is also returning your library books. Many of these books are urgently needed by the Year 11 students and they are needed back ASAP. Please make this a priority. Thanks again to those who have already completed this process.
From UAC
How to get your ATAR
2023 ATAR Advice Notice
2023 NSW ATARs will be released at 9 am on Thursday, 14 December. You will need your NESA Student Number and UAC Pin to log in.
2023 NSW HSC Students
ATARs are calculated for all ATAR-eligible students.
How to view your ATAR on this website:
You can access your ATAR via this website on 14 December 2023. You'll need your Year 12 student number and UAC PIN.
Your Year 12 student number: Your 8-digit student number was issued to you by NESA. If you've lost it, call NESA on 1300 13 83 23.
Your UAC PIN: Your 4-digit UAC PIN will be emailed to you on 5 April. It is different to your HSC PIN. If you lose your UAC PIN, call us on (02) 9752 0200.
When you view your ATAR you will see a list of the ATAR courses you studied, their category, and the number of units of each ATAR course that contributed to the calculation of your ATAR.
You will also be able to download and save your official ATAR Advice Notice.
If you receive an ATAR between 0.00 and 30.00, your ATAR will be recorded as ‘30 or less’. If you haven’t met the requirements of the ATAR, your ATAR will be recorded as ‘not eligible’.
How to claim your ATAR digital credential in CredFolio
CredFolio is a free digital wallet in which you can receive your ATAR as a digital credential. This means you will always have immediate access to your ATAR, wherever you are and whenever you need it.
With the CredFolio digital wallet, you can also safely store and access other digital credentials issued to you there, create personalised portfolios and share your achievements: all in one place and on your terms.
Follow these instructions to set up your CredFolio digital wallet and claim your ATAR:
- A couple of days before ATARs are released, CredFolio will send you an email inviting you to register. It will include a link to set up your account and a unique registration code. Follow the instructions to register. If you're a UAC applicant, the email will be sent to the address you enter in your application. If you're not a UAC applicant, the email will be sent to the address you registered with NESA.
- Once you have registered, you’ll be able to access your account through the CredFolio phone app (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store). If you prefer, you can keep using the web app.
- On 14 December (ATAR release day) you will be sent an email confirming that UAC has issued your ATAR to your CredFolio wallet. Open the web or phone app and view your new credential.
On 8 February we are holding our Dux Assembly. If you think this might be you, can you tentatively write this date down. We would love you to attend to receive your award. I would also love for many of our Year 12s to be on site if you’re around as a catch-up and for you to talk to and discuss your experiences with the Year 11/12 students. Obviously, many of you are moving away, but if you’re local at the time, GREAT!
Information re Offer Rounds:
Please see the attached document regarding information about “What to do when you get an offer to university through UAC.
Thanks to Mrs Davidson for doing such an excellent job with this cohort. I am looking forward to seeing their results and finding out what pathways they will pursue post school. I am more than happy to assist whenever possible so please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any help.
The Year 12 Graduation was excellent – Congratulations, Year 12, on completing your schooling!

On Wednesday, 6 December, 22 students completed their White Card course at school. Don and Donna from Learning Live delivered the course to the students. This will mean that these students can complete Work Experience in the Construction industry and for those doing Construction at St Clare’s next year, they have now completed a mandatory component of the course. Thanks very much to Donna and Don and to Learning Live for delivering this at St Clare’s.

It has been wonderful that St Clare’s has been included in the RIEP program again this year. There have been some excellent information sessions regarding many different local Industry pathways. Thanks to Erin Lute from RIEP who has organised these for us. I am looking forward to next year’s sessions.
At the start of next year, we will run a dedicated Careers Day for the Year 12 students and hopefully they will gain a great deal from this day. They will continue to have a Careers session each week. Year 11 students will be having a Careers session every two weeks and we are looking at possibilities for Years 9 and 10. Year 7 (and hopefully Year 8) will continue with the “Become” program which was started last year. Thanks to Mr Hobbes for running these sessions.
Have a wonderful and safe Christmas break. Enjoy your time with friends and family and I look forward to seeing everyone in 2024.
